When it Comes to Luxury Watches, Condition Matters

When it comes to luxury watches, condition matters.

In the world of luxury watches, collectors are increasingly seeking out quality over quantity.  Watches have become alternative assets that savvy buyers are parking money in with hopes of the watch increasing in value over time.  In watch collecting and investing, condition plays a big factor.

Buying a watch that was neglected by the previous owner just to save a few bucks vs buying one that is in great condition is a sure fire way to lose money on watches.  While some watches can be easily touched up that have had light use, others that have significant wear will cost you money to fix and can lead to the originality and lines of the case to be rounded and not look correct to the next potential buyer.

Understanding the nuances of condition is the difference between finding a watch that will hold its value over time vs one that will depreciate significantly and be even harder to sell to the next buyer down the road.  Minor imperfections and wear are expected on a used watch, but significant damage will lead to a tax on your investment.

Focus on finding a watch that in excellent or better condition.  No crystal scratches, no bezel scratches, and no dings or deep scratches on the case.  You’ll be happier with your purchase when you look down at it on your wrist and see a piece that looks as good as new.

At The Montecito Collection, we pride ourselves in stocking and sourcing watches that are in excellent condition.  No beat up watches here.
