The Details

The Dial & Insignia: A matte black dial anchors the iconic yellow and black insignia of the "Royal Maces" at 6 o'clock. High-contrast white luminescent hands and numerals ensure instant legibility, complemented by subtle yellow accents on the day/date wheel, chronograph hand, and pushers.

The Case & Materials: Crafted from matte black zirconium oxide ceramic, the 44.5mm case is virtually scratch-proof and lightweight. A soft-iron inner case protects the movement against extreme magnetic fields encountered in cockpit environments.

The Movement: Powered by the in-house IWC Calibre 69380, a robust automatic chronograph featuring a column-wheel design for crisp pusher engagement, day/date display, and a 46-hour power reserve.

Strap & Details: Outfitted on a textured black aftermarket textile strap with signature high-visibility yellow contrast stitching and a titanium pin buckle, mirroring the flight-suit aesthetic of naval aviators.

In the context of its military program, IWC works with various U.S. naval aviation units to engineer watches that are exclusively available to members of these squadrons. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition “Royal Maces” is inspired by the military-exclusive timepiece developed in collaboration with Strike Fighter Squadron 27, which is stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni in Japan. This chronograph features a 44.5-millimetre black zirconium oxide ceramic case. The pushers and the crown are made of Ceratanium, an IWC-developed material combining the lightness and robustness of titanium with the hardness and scratch-resistance of ceramic. The dial carries the “Maces” patch at 6 o’clock and features a yellow day-date indication. The tip of the chronograph seconds hand and the small seconds add details in the signature “Maces” color. The Grade 5 titanium case back features an engraving of the squadron’s F/A-18E Super Hornet jet next to the official denomination “VFA-27”. Ticking away inside the case is the IWC-manufactured 69380 caliber chronograph movement. The annual production of this chronograph is limited to 500 pieces.
